Make your own Play Dough for students to build models to learn concepts. If you put the play dough in an airtight container, it will remain fresh. I used the same play dough for several years with no problem. I recommend the plastic coffee containers. I've seen recommendations to refrigerate. However, the salt is a preservative and in a fairly high concentration. I never refrigerated my play dough.
Mix 1/2 cup of salt with 1 cup of flour.
Add 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar.
Mix desired food coloring in 1 cup of water.
Add colored water to salt and flour mixture.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil.
Cook over low to medium heat until mixture thickens. Stir regularly.
